Aug 30, 2010 · I believe Mahala Rains Smith Gilbert, born 1830-1832, to also be a child of Robert Rains, but that is only a hypothesis.Family lore, which was pretty thin, says that she was a Rains. That is supported by the 1932 death certificate of her daughter Nancy but the only other evidence is circumstantial, mainly proximity of persons in census records.
