When I turn off my lever valve at the mains the water hammering stops, so I'm thinking this is an issue I need to sort at my end. Here is a picture of where the mains water is coming into from the large iron pipe on the wall.

Sep 19, 2018 · A dampening effect as the tank water reaches its level.(and valve starts to shut) The float has only to bounce a tiny amount to shut the valve which may cause one "hammer" which causes a vibration of pipe and tank side which then causes tanother bounce and the cycle to begin again but faster resulting in a hammering cycle.
