Because it was written in the 1960s by a folk band (a great folk band to be fair), centuries after Gaelic’s zenith in Scotland. Not that it matters, but Scotland doesn’t even have a national anthem. Flower of Scotland has been used at sporting events but only relatively recently.

Theres always questions over how sport can be used for nationalism particularly in Scotland and potentially the anthem can feed into some of it but I think it's just a song that encapsulates a part of scottish history whilst being a great song.
