Aug 17, 2006 · some half ton chevy's actually came with the 4.3 and a new venture 3500. So if GM put that drivetrain in a big truck, i'm sure it is plenty strong in an s-10. I offroaded my s-10 stock many times and the transmission was great. I had no problems and still don't.

Mar 14, 2007 · In the case the option of a rebuild seems to be a poor choice in some of your opinions, I would like to hear what a more feasible solution would be. Other transmissions besides the NV3500 would be interesting to look into, depending on the amount of work that needs to be done to get them to fit and, of course, the cost.

Jan 14, 2012 · Their is not a realistic way to make a 2wd trans fit a 4wd, at least keeping the truck 4wd! The rear of the 4wd trans has provision to attach the transfer case, the 2wd trans case extends farther back. You CAN do it, but it means disassembling both transmissions and swapping the case and output shaft over.

May 8, 2009 · the swap will work so long as you don't intend to beat on it too hard, the nv3500 only came behind 318's for a reason. there was not 360/nv3500 from the factory, nv3500 is rated at 300 ft/lbs tq. @ 12k lbs. gcvw a stock 360 puts out 345 lb ft from the factory.

Oct 10, 2009 · Early Grand Cherokees (93-94) came with an AX-15 behind the 4.0. The AX-15 and NV-3500 are pretty much the same size, so I see no reason that the NV-3500 would not fit. This being said IMHO the AX-15 is a better trans than the NV-3500, It is about the same for overall strength, its quiter, and you can still get parts for it.

May 10, 2008 · I know the 3500 is a little weak for the application but it will suit the truck well overall I think. Can you swap the 32 spline output shaft out of the 96 and up GM NV3500 (internal hydraulic clutch release) for a 23 spline Jeep 3550 one so as to swap it to a Jeep transfer case?
