Apr 26, 2013 · I did catch a alligator gar in the Barnes Bay area about 25 years ago that was 6 1/2 ' long on a red plastic worm while night fishing. Back before 9/11 when folks could still park their boats along the face of the dam it wasn't uncommon to see large alligator gar cruising along the dam while night fishing under lights for trout.

Jun 3, 2007 · The're not alligator gar they are longnose gar. Can't hardly catch them with a hook. You can use frayed rope jigs with out hooks to catch them sometimes, gets caught in their teeth. You can google how to catch them I know there are a few websites to show you how.

May 13, 2011 · Gar are a "rough fish" so anything goes with them. The only one that has some protection is the Alligator Gar in some areas. You can snag them, gig them, bow fish for them, and use hook and line. I don't think, in MO, there is a limited method or closed season for them.

Aug 8, 2024 · Everything from Bass, Bluegill, and crappie to three species of Gar, Buffalo, Grass Carp, Common Carp, Silver carp, Bowfin, and I suspect Northern Snakehead. I target Gar on the outside bend while carp roam the inside edge. Last time I was there trying for a Longnose Gar, I saw Common Carp tailing on these mud flats.
