When I create a desktop shortcut for a game installed in Xbox for PC the icon comes out as solid black, green or blue square with a tiny picture in the middle. It looks terrible and most of the time it is too small to tell what game it is.

There is a nice little program called tileiconifier. It's free, standalone, and very easy to use. Once you set it up it doesn't have to run in the background. All you need to do is create custom shortcuts with the built-in tool. Bit of a workaround, here. If you change your desktop icon sizes to medium/small it looks normal. Only happens on large.
