Reed Leonard Crandall (February 22, 1917 – September 13, 1982) [1][2] was an American illustrator and penciller of comic books and magazines. He was best known for the 1940s Quality Comics ' Blackhawk and for stories in EC Comics during the 1950s. Crandall was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2009.

In 1934 the Grandfather, Congressman Reed Crandall, died at the age of seventy-eight in Newton, KS. In June of 1935 Reed Crandall graduated from Newton High School.

Although Reed Crandall is best known for his work as a comic book illustrator, he worked in a variety of mediums including watercolor, painting and scratch board. In all of his work, his skill is evident.

Reed Crandall was born in Winslow, Indiana on February 22, 1917. His career in art started at the age of four when he wowed his parents with some of his earliest drawings. In 1935 he recieved an art scholarship at the Cleveland School of Art in northeast Ohio.

The story surrounds an artist who travels to the spirit world in order to get inspiration. The spirits don't like him being there, and he eventually ends up going there so much that he is killed by them.
