MICR Line: MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. The MICR line consists of encoded numbers and symbols at the bottom of a check. The MICR characters are magnetically charged ink or toner that are read by high speed computer sorters.
MICR Encoding. The bottom line on all checks used in the U.S. and Canada (and many other countries worldwide) must be printed using a font called MICR (short for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition).
