Visitors are now able to tour the Ranch at their own pace in their private vehicle with the ability to stop at sites along the way such as the president's birthplace, Johnson family cemetery, and the president's first school.

Aug 19, 2010 · The LBJ Ranch became the flagship of the various ranching properties owned or leased by President Johnson. Returning home to retire in 1969, Johnson continued to draw strength and solace from this ranch along the Pedernales River.

Oct 10, 2024 · The LBJ Ranch was suddenly thrust upon the world stage when Lyndon Johnson assumed the presidency following the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Relatively unknown to the nation before November 1963, the Johnson family's Hill Country retreat became the second most significant location in the country after the White House.

Traveling 14 miles west of Johnson City you will find the LBJ Ranch and the LBJ State Park and Historic Site. The State Park manages a Visitor Center where you can obtain a free permit which will allow you to drive through the Ranch.

Ranch sites that are open to visit are the Junction School, Reconstructed Birthplace, Johnson Family Cemetery, and Showbarn. Fourteen miles east of the LBJ Ranch, in Johnson City, the National Park Visitor Center, Boyhood Home, and Johnson Settlement are also open.

There are no entrance fees to enter either Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park or Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site. Visitors DO NEED to pick up a FREE driving permit before entering the LBJ Ranch.
