I don't know if it has to do with the other characters not coming back, but maybe they didn't want to waste time on something like Buttons and Mindy for a season with only 13 episodes. One thing I did like from the reboot was the new Pinky and the Brain.

Dec 2, 2020 · Overall, the Pinky and the Brain segments were definitely the strongest part of the reboot. The Edward Snowden one was brilliant, and Future Brain seemed to have the best animation out of all the episodes. The creators seem to understand Brain and Pinky's personality fairly well. The Warners, not so much.

May 7, 2023 · I like the reboot and think many of Ruegger’s criticisms are unfounded (I think it’s about as good as seasons 4 and 5 of the original), but I get his annoyance. And to his credit, when people from the original show like Tress MacNeille or Steve & Julie Bernstein were nominated for awards on the reboot, Ruegger tweeted support for them to win.
