Sep 28, 2009 · Just to explain. The solvent dissolves the PMMA which then acts as it's own glue (solvent welding). It's a good solution. Also vibrational welding will give adhesion without glue. Jul 22, 2003 · 3M Scotch-Weld Acrylic Structural Plastic Adhesive DP8005. Remarkably, this actually bonds very well to polyolefins. I've been testing a glued drop on PE film, and it has survived months in 180 F water. It's a two part adhesive, 10:1 mix, and it contains micro-beads for gap registration. There's quite a bit of shrinkage upon curing.

Be aware, they are suspected of causing cancer in large dosages. Ethyl acetate is the most commonly used solvent, if the lens are made from acrylic. You can find these solvents at many local hardware stores.

We also started using a larger cell size honeycomb, which uses less glue so perfect clarity isnt necessary anymore. As long as the glue is a translucent white, with no off colors, it is visually unnoticeable.

While I believe the glue is actually stronger than Stitts, I have had failures on gear legs and on the top of a Stearman wing outboard of the gas tank.
