Gusts of up to 93mph (150km/h) have caused multiple power cuts as Storm Éowyn brings severe gales. Thousands of people across Wales are without power and almost 50 schools will remain closed on Friday.

In anticipation of more power outages during the day, SP Networks has organised a series of severe weather refuges for households affected. These “Warm Space” shelter sites, in cafes and community centres, will provide hot drinks and let people charge their mobiles and electrical devices.

Almost 40 schools will remain closed on Friday in Wales as Storm Éowyn brings severe gales. Several weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office, external, with coastal gusts of up to 90mph (145km/h) forecast under an amber warning in parts of north Wales.
