World No. 7 Daniil Medvedev mutually parted ways with coach Gilles Simon after having the Frenchman in his corner for just a year.

Former tennis world No.1 Daniil Medvedev and assistant coach Gilles Simon have “mutually decided” to part ways after a year together. Medvedev arrived at this week’s Rotterdam Open with a revised coaching team after confirmation that Simon had been let go. “Hey guys, Gilles Simon and I mutually decided to stop working together,” the Russian said.

The former Major champion wrapped up the previous season in the top-5 but lacked titles. The Russian fell to Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in Beijing and Shanghai before suffering an early loss at the Paris Masters. Daniil entered the ATP Finals as world no. 4.

Daniil Medvedev became a fan-favorite player for his exciting play and charming personality. However, Medvedev has not been able to contain his angry outbursts on the court over the past few months. The 28-year-old has gotten himself in trouble with the ATP and various tournament organizers for tantrums that include throwing his racquet and destroying net cameras.

Daniil Medvedev’s poor start to the 2025 tennis season has resulted in a change to his coaching set-up as he has confirmed the departure of one of his coaches. Former world No 6 Gilles Simon joined the 2021 US Open winner’s team in 2024,

With Daniil Medvedev's last ATP Tour title coming in May 2023, the Russian has decided to change up his coaching staff.
