Australia wrapped up a comprehensive 2-0 series victory over Sri Lanka, sealing the second test with a commanding nine-wicket win in Galle.

(Reuters) -A clinical Australia took a little over three days to pound Sri Lanka by nine wickets in the second test and complete a 2-0 series sweep in Galle on Sunday. Australia's first series victory in Sri Lanka since 2011 is a timely boost for a team that will be defending their World Test Championship (WTC) title in the final against South Africa in June.

Set a target of 75 to win, Australia lost only Travis Head as they romped to a commanding victory before lunch on day four.

Australia is edging towards a 2-0 series sweep over Sri Lanka after Alex Carey's breathtaking century propelled the visitors into a formidable position in the second test.

Australia captain Steve Smith attributed their 2-0 series victory against Sri Lanka to the perfect execution of their batting plans against the turning ball in Galle. A test series in Sri Lanka is often a trial by spin for any touring side but Australia came prepared with their batters using every trick in the book to unsettle Sri Lanka's formidable spin attack.

By the time Sri Lanka's schedule picks up again, Karunaratne would be 38. Mathews would be closing in on 39. Chandimal would be 36. Of these players, Chandimal is the only one who even gets picked in white-ball squads any more, and even he has not played a limited-overs international since 2022.

Dinesh Chandimal has scored an unbeaten 63 as Sri Lanka struggled to 136-5 at lunch on Day 3 in reply to Australia's imposing first innings of 654 in the first cricket test.
