BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — After a 2-day walk and a night out in the open, protesting Belgrade university students in Serbia on Sunday got a taxi ride home — free of charge.

Serbia’s students are leading mass protests and blockades of three bridges over the Danube river in the northern city of Novi Sad on Saturday to mark three months since a concrete canopy crashed down at a train station there,

The protests began after an attack on drama students on January 24 by pro-government thugs during a daily 15-minute commemoration for victims of a deadly overhang collapse in November that killed 15 people.

Wrapped in blankets and huddled around fires at makeshift camps, Serbian students braved subzero temperatures in Novi Sad as they spent the night outside after a mass rally against corruption brought tens of thousands to the streets.
