California lawmakers in the State Senate and Assembly unanimously passed legislation that provides more than $2.5 billion to help the Los Angeles area begin the cleanup and recovery process from the devastating wildfires.

Paradise Mayor Steve Crowder is in contact with officials in Southern California to share insights on recovery efforts following a wildfire, drawing from his experience as a Camp Fire survivor and the rebuilding of the community.

Experts told NBC News that Southern California and other vulnerable areas need a transformational shift in mindset away from heavy reliance on firefighters to control blazes.
