CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Board of Education members for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are scheduled to vote Tuesday on a proposal that would increase thousands of employees’ compensation to at least $20 per hour.

“Minimum wage increases put pressure on restaurants to raise wages for non-minimum wage staff and result in higher menu prices, making affordability even worse for Nova Scotians. Many restaurants may also be forced to cut operating hours, reduce staff or even close their doors.”

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education approved a new pay schedule for staff that will raise the district’s minimum wage to $20 per hour.

Gov. Josh Shapiro also said increasing the minimum wage will be top of mind when he introduces his 2025-2026 budget proposal next month.

Spain will raise the minimum wage by 4.4% in 2025, according to Labor Minister Yolanda Diaz. The government reached an agreement with unions to increase the minimum monthly salary to €1,184 ($1,235), Diaz said in a post on social media platform Bluesky. The initiative adds €50 a month to the minimum wage established last year.
