By Tatyana Kekic in Novi Sad Serbia is in the throes of a political crisis, sparked by a deadly infrastructure collapse in Novi Sad late last year, with ongoing student-led protests putting immense pressure on the government.

Protesters shut down bridges over the Danube River in Serbia’s Novi Sad on Saturday to mark three months since a deadly railway station accident and register a protest against President Aleksandar Vucic.

Three months after the collapse of the awning at the local train station, which claimed 15 lives, the anger in the country is still not dying down, despite the resignation of Prime Minister Milos Vucevic.

The protests began after an attack on drama students on January 24 by pro-government thugs during a daily 15-minute commemoration for victims of a deadly overhang collapse in November that killed 15 people.

By Tatyana Kekic in Belgrade Hundreds of students in Serbia began their two-day march from the capital Belgrade to Novi Sad on January 30, a journey of approximately 80 kilometers, as the country remains gripped by political turmoil following a deadly infrastructure collapse in Novi Sad late last year.

Protesters have repeatedly faced attacks, including on students, with drivers ramming cars into demonstrations on two previous occasions. Two people were seriously injured. Along the way to Novi Sad on Friday, the students were greeted by cheering citizens who honked their car horns or came out of their homes to offer food and drinks.
