Heavy snow and multiple spinouts Thursday morning had officials holding all traffic on Interstate 80 at the California and Nevada state line in the Sierra as a Winter Storm Warning went into effect.

As Northern California sees a brief pause from winter weather conditions on Wednesday, a second storm system is preparing to hit the Sacramento region. Forecasts from the National Weather Service show that Thursday will see the heaviest rainfall and snowfall as the cold system arrives.

The KCRA 3 weather team issued an Impact Day for the Valley and Foothills because of how rain will affect outdoor activities and travel. In the Sierra, we issued an Alert Day because travel is not recommended due to heavy snow.
