The Indian stock market fell the day after the budget 2025 was presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in parliament

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a gap-down start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 23,365 level, a discount of nearly 190 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

Nifty 50 also faced the wrath of bears with a decline of 243 points to fall below 23,250 levels. Both the benchmarks have tumbled by more than 1% each. The performance comes after the Union Budget announcement where deep tax changes were announced by FM Nirmala Sitharaman.

The stock exchanges are open today, February 1, for a special trade session as the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the Union Budget 2025 in Parliament today. Indian benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex ended the previous trade session higher.

Nifty 50, Sensex and the Nifty Bank indices witnessed a good recovery last week. However, the rise stalled on Saturday as the Union Budget failed to impress the markets. The expected trigger has not come from the Budget for the markets to rise strongly.

Indian stock market indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, ended flat amid high volatility today, 1 February 2025, after the Union Budget 2025-2026 was presented in the Parliament.

During Sitharaman's speech, the Indian benchmarks erased morning gains and fell to the day's low. The Nifty 50 declined 0.81% to 23,318.30, and the Sensex fell 0.64% to 77,006.47.

As of the close, the top gainers from the Sensex 30 pack were Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, Maruti Suzuki India, Bharti Airtel, Zomato, among others. Meanwhile the top losers included Power Grid Corporation of India, ITC, Asian Paints, Tata Motors, Hindustan Unilever, Larsen & Toubro and so on.

Sensex and Nifty have enjoyed a three-day winning streak, even as FIIs continue to unwind long positions. However, despite the recent gains, Nifty remains 11 percent below its record high from September 27.
