CMT Music Awards have been canceled, leaving fans shocked. Now, they’re wondering why Paramount pulled the plug on one of country music’s big events.

A memo obtained by Hollywood Reporter said with company merger Paramount would "reimagine and optimize [their] events slate going forward."

Paramount has paused the CMT Music Awards, the MTV EMAs and more 2025 events, according to a memo from the company's Bruce Gillmer.

CMT is among the Paramount divisions hit with extensive layoffs in 2024. Meanwhile, cable networks like Nickelodeon and MTV are reportedly not priorities for Skydance. Amid the company’s competitors shedding or restructuring cable networks, it’s possible those brands will be dropped from the Paramount portfolio altogether.
