Unusually, there were no dolphins on the day I went out in spite of gorgeous weather and pleasant sea conditions. I would've given four stars...but the crew and tour provider can't control wildlife. …Full review by David S

So the website says “swim with dolphins” but after reading the reviews it doesn’t look like you’re actually swimming with them? Do people actually get to swim with and touch the dolphins or are they just seeing them from afar?

Our experience was the following. The boat takes swimmers out to where the dolphins are. Everyone gets into the water and can see the dolphins and in our case turtles. As the dolphins are wild, no one touched any dolphins. My wife did have a large sea turtle swim with her, very close by, for several yards. We also had dolphins swimming very close to the boat while the boat was in motion. Overall, between the boat ride, the dolphins. the turtles, the view, and the crew, we truly enjoyed the day.
Hi I suffer boat motion sickness, how long our we travelling to get to our day destination? Are the waters rough? Also is it ok for my 7 and 9 year old boys to snorkel with help?

Aloha Clara, Thank you for your interest in Dolphins and You! I'll respond to your question about motion sickness and then your question about young snorkelers. As the other travelers have mentioned, we do offer motion sickness PSI bands for purchase at $20 for a reusable pack of two. PSI bands work by tapping into a pressure point in your wrist, which can help ease the impact of motion sickness. But for those who are prone to motion sickness, we recommend taking over-the-counter medication at least an hour before the tour begins so that the medicine has time to kick in. In terms of the ocean conditions, they are not predictable day-by-day. But in general, the waters are sometimes a bit rougher in the winter months (December - March) and later in the day. Summer tends to be quite calm. We also have lots of activities going on whenever we are on the boat, and we spend much of the day in the water. In response to your question about your children, 5 and 7 years old are perfect ages for our tour! Our crew is great with kids and first-time snorkelers. They'll have an awesome time with the waterslide and onboard entertainment. All guests are outfitted with a life vest, so they will stay at the surface without much effort. And our crew is lifeguard and free dive certified. The lead guide will have a lifeguard float in the water for anyone who needs assistance. It's best to let the guides know beforehand if anyone in your group may have trouble swimming. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Mahalo!
Are the morning tours as crowded as the later tours? Is there really up to 70 people on each tour? That would seem to be too many for a peaceful wildlife viewing experience. Also, does the company ensure that the dolphins are not chased or harassed? I've been reading some things about how the Marine Mammal Protection Act discourages swimming less than 50 yards from Hawaiian spinner dolphins. Does this tour follow those guidelines?

Our group had no more than about thirty to forty and when I saw another group, they were even smaller. We rode on a bigger boat. As far as proximity, they were super respectful about the animals and their space. They gave us all the do’s and don’ts!
Is the 1st tour (5am) better than the 2nd (9am)? Is there a difference in the likelihood of seeing dolphins and other marine life?

We did the 5am pickup one and I preferred it over the 9am pickup. We did see two pods of dolphins, a Manta ray, a whale and a turtle. Depending if you're traveling as adults or a family. We noticed the afternoon tour had more children than the morning tour if that matters.
My husband is worried about what camera to bring - he is planning to be on the boat mostly but might get in the water some. Is there a place to secure his camera if he brings the expensive one while he is in the water? I'm planning on having a gopro with me in the water. We are super excited - we have booked two tours in June with Dolphins and You!

Aloha Melissa, Thank you for your question! We do supply bins under seats for storing your personal items, but space is limited. We are not liable to lost, stolen or damaged items, so if you do choose to bring a valuable item on board please be very careful! We recommend letting our professionals capture your experience so that you can fully enjoy your tour without worrying about getting the shot. Dolphins and You offers professional photography and videography for an additional $60 (photo only) or $100 (photo and video combo). The photo packages usually contain around 300 over- and under-water shots, and the video is usually around 20 minutes long. We document the experience from beginning to end. Please let us know if you have any other questions. See you on board in June! Mahalo, Dolphins and You
