Just do it! Yes, it is pricey but totally worth it. You get to ride in an ice explorer and then get to walk out onto the glacier for pictures. For me, it was a once in a lifetime experience. Nice siz… Full review by Beachcomb_33

We were there last year around that time. Yes, you can see the Icefield from the visitor center very clearly from a distance. In fact, it's quite a panaramic view. Oddly, you can't see the Icefield from the Skywalk. It was open when we visited then and it provides nice views of other areas. I can't recall when the sunset is. However, it does start to darken early because of all the mountains and forests. You didn't mention how long you were going to be there, but it sounds like you are just going up for the day. If that is the case, I'd suggest you head out as early as possible.
