The walk to the closest fall does not take long. But there are falls further afield and if you want to see it all definitely get the guide. We went a fair distance by ourselves and ran into a bloke shooting birds and there were a few dogs barking from nearby homesteads. If you only go to closest fall do what you feel best, but the people were so friendly.

The walk down to the falls is roughly 900 metres : a gradual, but steep descent comprising parts where there are, for example, many steep steps, followed by flat, sloping walkway, then more steep steps, sloping walkway.. etc etc.. In regard to your question: bearing in mind that the average 4 year old is around 100cm tall, and many of the steps are around 40-50 cm high, I think a child of that age would have great difficulty. Be prepared to offer a lot of assistance (ie lifting the child down /up the steps) or carrying him/her. The seven year old, being taller and more agile, would probably manage ok. Another 'tip' - don't bother with the 'guides' at the car park area and on the street, who ask for 100,000 Rph ($10) to escort you- it is totally unnecessary, as it is a straightforward path, with no risk of getting 'lost' along the way! From memory, the actual entry price was approx 20,000Rph ($2)

20k or 10k per person depending on exact waterfall you visit (there are two git git waterfalls in 1.5 km distance from each other with different entrances - i recommend you to visit them both). But don't pay the guide - they ask you 100k-150k and you do not need them.
Q:
Is end of April best time to visit this?
A:
April/may would be good, but anytime outside of wet season would be good which is around Nov- Feb hope this helps

it depends on which waterfall you're visiting. along the road, there are several waterfall and all of them are called gitgit waterfall. personally i only visited one but i've drive passed 2 others. I guess the one that "LoveGarden" visited is the same one as i have (it's nearer to north Bali, Singaraja). there's a small parking lot roughly 20 metres from the waterfall entrance. from there, it's a 20-30 minnutes leisure walk down the stairs to reach the waterfall. Note: my friend visited another one (it's nearer to south Bali, Bedugul). She said that the one she went to should only be visited in the morning because approx after lunch hour, there gonna be thick mist surrounding the area
